Christopher Ryan Tyler

February 23, 1982 – April 16, 2024

Christopher Ryan Tyler, 42, passed away April 16, 2024. He was born on Feb. 23, 1982, in Winston-Salem.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 5, 2024, at Ardmore United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem. An additional service will be held in Emerald Isle at a later date.

Chris quickly developed a circle of friends wherever he lived — Winston-Salem, Clemmons, Wilmington, Virginia Beach, Linden and Hubert (Emerald Isle). He was kind, gregarious, quick-witted and brought out the best in people. He never let a friend fight a fight alone no matter what they were battling. When he met Margaret, the love of his life, it completed him. Their love for each other was uncompromising and unconditional. Prior to his untimely passing, he realized his dream of marrying a beautiful woman, moving to the coast (and driving on the beach), becoming a professional waterfowl and bear hunting guide and having children with whom he and Margaret could enjoy the outdoors.

Chris was a masterful hunter and fisherman with incredible instinct, able to catch fish and bring home game when others could not. Since Chris’s passing, we expect a massive increase in fish and wildlife populations. As his voicemail greeting says “You’ve got Chris. I’m either in the woods or on the water. Please leave a message.” We are absolutely certain that he is in one of those two places right now.

At a young age, Chris learned carpentry from his late grandfather, Roy Harding. He worked on houses with his uncles and brothers and was proud of the covered dock he built at his family home on High Rock Lake. He earned his Eagle Scout certification at the age of 16 and helped many other scouts along the way.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Ponce Tyler, stepson Samuel Johnston (16) and daughter Summer Rose Tyler (3) of the home. He was eagerly awaiting the birth of their son, Silas Maximus Tyler on May 28. Also surviving are his parents, David and Terri Tyler of Clemmons; sisters Mary Danskin (Scott) of Columbia, S.C., and Katie Tyler (Liza) of West Seattle, Washington; brothers Mike Park (Winnie) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and David Tyler Jr. (Tyler) of Clemmons; maternal grandmother Jackie Rose Harding of Lewisville; paternal grandfather Earle Tyler of Columbia, S.C.; his father and mother-in law Fred and Rita Ponce; his beloved dog Tucker and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces and friends — all of whom loved him so much.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the family at GoFundMe.com, search on Christopher Tyler.
