CLEMMONS — In recognition of the Veterans of Foreign Wars National Day of Service, the post and auxiliary in Clemmons are getting in on the action.

On Saturday, the VFW Post 9010 in collaboration with its Auxiliary, is participating in the Village of Clemmons Stormwater Department annual Community Wide Spring Cleanup.

This event brings together many different organizations, businesses, students and local residents to help show the importance of beautifying their community and keeping their waterways and roadways clean.

Launched in 2022, the veteran-led initiative kicks off on the first Saturday in May with the dedicated day of service marking the start of community-service projects taking place throughout the month of May.

The VFW, all veteran service organizations, other non-profit organizations and civilians are encouraged to come together and participate in this giant give-back to their local communities.

VFW Day of Service is a service-oriented and directs participants to raise resources (not funds), meet needs and make a difference in tangible ways. Members, veterans and interested parties are asked to visit VFWDayofService.org to register their event on the interactive Day of Service map and receive a special participation decal or find a local event to join, and see what other veteran-led service projects are planned around the country and how they will make a difference. VFW Day of Service is an outgrowth of the ongoing VFW #StillServing initiative launched in January of 2020 to highlight how veterans continue to serve in their communities after active duty military service.

America’s veterans continue to serve in their communities after military service. The VFW Day of Service events happening throughout the world during May 2024 emphasize the important role veterans play as community leaders and volunteers and inspire others to serve as well.
