We are excited about events and activities planned for the coming year. Membership meetings were held on Jan. 2 and 16.
Items of discussion:
At our first monthly meeting Thao Sommerville treated us to her delicious homemade Pho. Our club’s pecan sales are going well. We have a few bags of our 1-pound Terri Lynn whole pecans available. If you are interested in purchasing some please contact a club member.
Sommerville suggested we sell Krispy Kreme Donuts (buy a dozen get a dozen cards) as a fundraiser. That will be discussed at our next board meeting.
Member Kerrie Starnes has agreed to take over as head of the interclub committee. We are considering venues for our spaghetti meal fundraiser we plan to have in early spring.
Secretary Michael Watson announced the new member directory has been completed and distributed. Our highway cleanup day was changed due to bad weather. The new day is Feb. 15, at 9 a.m.
President Joel Schanker stated he plans to set a meeting with current and incoming Key Club advisors. Three club members will be attending the Mid-Year Conference at Myrtle Beach in February.
We discussed possible community projects. Jim Brosovic suggested building and placing a mini library book drop box. Further research on logistics and costs will be pursued and a report will be made at an upcoming meeting.
At our meeting on Jan. 16, our guest speaker was David Hanien. He spoke about his life’s accomplishments. Those include numerous degrees and learning strong work ethic from his father at a young age. He has had a successful career in the financial industry and is a published writer.
David Gilbert with Twin City Kawanis in Winston Salem attended as a guest. He said we could sell any remaining bags of pecans at their Pancake Jamboree on March 9. Some of our members agreed to volunteer again this year at the event. We have enjoyed being a part of this amazing fundraiser for the past two years.
The Kiwanis Club of Clemmons meets on the first and third Thursdays of each month. The meeting time is noon at the Trinity Elms Apartment Complex Community building at 7543 Fair Oaks Drive (just off Harper Road) second drive to the right. Anyone interested is welcome to come to a meeting. A light lunch will be served. For more information contact thebeav1973@outlook.com.
