What was happening this week in 1980 — Clemmons native William F. Snyder was formally installed as president of Wytheville Community College.  Local residents who attended the installation ceremony and reception were Mr. and Mrs. Ray F. Snyder, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Miller and Mrs. Walter C. Miller, all of Clemmons.

The Clemmons Senior Citizen Club met at the VFW Post on Hampton Road. Guest speaker for the meeting presented by Mrs. Thelma Mullican was Frank Morgan, principal of Clemmons Elementary School.

Recently, Roger and Peggy Garrel of Styers Ferry Road spent a weekend in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. They took the trip to celebrate their wedding anniversary. Enroute home they stopped in Cherokee.

John and Elaine Boyer and their children Annah and Will of Harper Road had as a houseguest for the past two weeks, Mrs. Paulette Harper Rommel of Fairfield, Connecticut. Rommel is formerly from Clemmons and a freelance writer having been published in Reader’s Digest.

Dorothy W. Haymore of Lewisville was promoted to banking officer at Wachovia Bank and Trust in Winston-Salem.

The Clemmons Garden Club met at the home of Delores Ceresa of Bermuda Run. Mrs. Joyce Robertson and Mrs. Grace Maddrey were co-hostesses.

Mrs. H.E. Simpson of Lewisville-Clemmons Road in Lewisville had as a visitor her sister, Mrs. Mae Redfield of Essex, Connecticut. She flew down and then the two traveled to West Jefferson.

Clemmons resident M.B. Neal was appointed general agent of the Winston-Salem agency of Integon Life Insurance Company.
