Lois A. Beatty

Mrs. Lois A. Beatty, 85, passed away on Friday, Sept. 6, 2019. She was the daughter of the late Clayton and Clara Edie of Steubenville, Ohio. Lois graduated from Steubenville High School and then attended Ohio State University. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Ronald S. Beatty. Lois will be lovingly remembered by her three children, Suzanne Todd (Doug), Doug Beatty (Amie), and Sharon Lunsford (Mark). She is also survived by five grandchildren, Emily and Megan Todd, Wade Beatty, and Justin and Ethan Lunsford. Up until her health declined, Lois was an avid bridge player, delivered Meals on Wheels for more than 30 years, and served on various committees at Lewisville United Methodist Church. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2019, at Hayworth-Miller in Lewisville. A private graveside service was held at Lewisville United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association, Trellis Supportive Care of Winston-Salem, or a charity of your choice.

Stephen Alan Boyd

Mr. Stephen Alan Boyd, 69, of Clemmons, passed away Sunday, Sept. 8, 2019, at his home. He was born Sept. 22, 1949, in Forsyth County. Steve was owner and operator of Clemmons Locksmithing for many years and retired in 2008. He was a member of First Christian Church of Clemmons (formerly Muddy Creek Church of Christ). Steve was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy Holt Boyd, and his father, Elgin Lee Boyd. Surviving are his mother, Thelma Thompson Boyd; one son, Brad Boyd; one brother, Ron Boyd (Cheryl) and two grandchildren, Riley and Brayden Boyd. A private graveside service will be held at First Christian Church of Clemmons with Pastor Bob McCaskill officiating. There is no stated visitation. Memorials may be made to the Forsyth Humane Society, 4881 Country Club Rd., Winston-Salem, N.C., 27104.

Paul Anthony Godlewski

Paul Anthony Godlewski went home to be with Jesus on Aug. 16, 2019, surrounded by his family. Paul was born April 4, 1946, in Schenectady, N.Y., to Stanley A and Stephania L Godlewski. He is preceded in death by his wife, Linda Kay Godlewski; his parents; one brother, Richard S. Godlewski; and a nephew, Mark A. Godlewski.

Paul was very proud of his Polish heritage and loved Polish food. He could do anything, but his favorite was driving his big rig; he was also a master craftsman.

The grandkids named him “Grumpy Grandpa,” and it stuck. From sports activities, horse shows, swimming in his pool, driving around in the Jeep, and more, he cherished his grandkids. He is survived by his children, Jason Godlewski (Nikki), Stephanie Godlewski Roscoe, and Jessica Farthing (Joe); five grandchildren, Nick, Dylan, Jackson, Alex, and Maxx; sisters, Patricia E. Oberlin and Elaine S. Hensley; sister-in-law, Sandra K. Godlewski; special friends Luther and Jenny Vann; and many more nieces, nephews, and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at Paul’s home on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019, at 3 p.m.; the family will receive friends after the service.

Richard Roberts

Mr. Richard Roberts, 75, loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, passed away on Sept. 2, 2019, at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. Richard was born in Orlando, Florida, to C.B. and Clemmie (Bare) Roberts. He graduated from Davie County High School. He attended Appalachian State and graduated from Panhandle State in Oklahoma with a degree in biology. Richard spent many years in research and sales before attending Averett University to obtain an MBA and opened Carolina Custom Molded Shoes. He heard a calling late in life and attended Duke Seminary. He retired as a minister with the United Methodist Church. He was married to Janine (Vogler) and had two beautiful daughters, Theresa and Pamela. Richard spent his early years working on the family dairy farm and enjoyed listening to football games on the radio with his father. This led to a lifetime enjoyment of the game, beginning with a position with the Davie County Rebels and a scholarship to Appalachian State. His favorite teams included the Duke Blue Devils and the Chicago Bears. He also enjoyed outdoor activities and spent many days fishing and camping, a passion he was able to share with his daughters. Richard considered himself a Trekkie having watched the original Star Trek series on a black-and-white television. His favorite hobby was his model trains, something he lovingly shared with his grandsons. Richard had recently joined his Davie County High School classmates in monthly get-togethers and proudly displayed the Davie Rebel shared among member of the class of 1962. Richard was a member of Advance United Methodist Church. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Roy. He is survived by his wife, Janine; his daughters and their husbands, Terrie and Ron Lee, Pam and Eric Carr; his grandsons, Ian Carr and Aaron Carr; his brother, Ray Roberts; and several cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and close friends. A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019, at Advance United Methodist Church, followed by fellowship in the church’s hall. Memorials may be made to Advance United Methodist Church, 1911 NC 801, Advance, N.C.

Charles Cooper Styron

Mr. Charles Cooper Styron, 82, passed away Saturday, Sept. 7, 2019, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born on May 31, 1937, in Forsyth County to the late Charles and Julia Jones Styron. He was a graduate of Wake Forest University in 1959. He was an avid Wake Forest basketball fan and he also enjoyed golfing, collecting rocks, shells and lighthouses. Styron was a longtime member of Ardmore Baptist Church where he faithfully served his church especially as an usher. In the past few years he had changed his membership to Calvary Baptist Church and continued serving as an usher and enjoyed making new friendships in his Bible Fellowship Class. Preceding him in death was his first wife, Hughlene Styron. Surviving is his wife, Sun Styron; three daughters, Emily Styron of Zionsville, Indiana, Amy Styron Holcombe (Robert) of Clemmons, and Betsey Styron Johnston (Rick) of Reidsville; five grandchildren, Olivia Duncan, Drew Duncan, Gryphon Allen, Sarah Holcombe, and Joshua Holcombe; sister, Elizabeth “Libby” Long (Tommy) of Winston-Salem; cousin, Sandy Lipe of Greenville, S.C.; also surviving are several nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2019, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Christa Warise and Pastor Al Fausch officiating.
