Antoinette studied journalism and African American history at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she began researching and writing about the influence of age, race, gender and gender on social policy as editor of The Black Ink. This research earned her the Earnest H. Abernathy Chancellors Award for Excellence in Student Publications.
